Location:

Land Area and Location: Cambodia, which is physically located in Southeast Asia, occupies an area of 181.035 square kilometers and located on the Indochina Peninsula and borders Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. The Gulf of Siam is off the West Coast.The country consists chie mountains and the Mekong River. The plain is centered on Tonle Sap lake,which is a natural storage lake for the Mekong.
 

 

Cities:

Phnom Penh, the capital city, it has population approximately 2 millions. Other major cities are Battambang, Siem Reap, Sihanouk Ville, Kampong Cham, Kandal, Prey Veng, Takeo, Kampong Thom, Svay Rieng and Kampong Speu.
 
 
 

Population:

The population is approximately 14 million. The Khmer ethnic group constitutes 90-95 % of it. The population also includes a diversity of ethnic backgrounds: Chinese, Vietnamese, Cham (Muslims) and hill tribes called Khmer Loeu.
 

Religion:

The official religion of Cambodia is Theravada Buddhism, which is also practiced in neighboring Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and Sri Lanka. King Jayavarman VII introduced Theravada Buddhisminto Cambodia in the 12th century. The sight of saffron-robed monks is common throughout the Kingdom and almost every village has a Buddhist temple. The country also has minority religions such as Islam, Christianity.
 
  

Language:

The official language is Khmer. French is spoken by the educated older Cambodians. However, in recent years English has gained popularity.
 
 

Food & drink:


Rice and fish are the basic foods enjoyed by Cambodians. Delicious noodle soups are available at cafes. Fresh seafood is plentiful at Sihanouk Ville. In major cities a wide range of culinary fare is on offer including; Chinese, Thai, French, Korean, Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese and Middle Eastern.
 

Climates:

Situated in the tropical zone, Cambodia has sun almost year round. Each season has its own beauty and refreshing weather changes. The average temperature is 30 degrees C, the minimum is about 16 degrees C. There are two main seasons: The Monsoon Season and Dry Season. The rainy season last from May to October, due to southwestern monsoons, temperature range from 27 to 35 degree C with humidity up to 90%. The hottest month is April when the temperature can reach 38 degree C. The cool dry season ranges from 17 to 27 degree C. December and January is the coolest period. ( Nov-Feb: cool/dry, Mar- May: hot/dry, Jun- Aug: hot/wet, Sep- Oct: cool/wet)
 

Rivers & Lakes:

The Mekong River flows through Cambodia from its northern border with Laos to its northern border with Vietnam. Phnom Penh was built in an auspicious location where the Mekong  intersects with the Basack and Tonle Sap Rivers.
The Tonle Sap Lake and Tonle Sap River create a unique phenomenon over the world, reversing its direction twice a year.
 

Mountains:

The Dongrek Mountans run along the northern border, the Kravagn (Cardamom) Mountain run southwest of Battambang. Damrey (Elephants) Mountain run east and southeast of Phnom Penh. Phnom Aoral (1,813 meters) lies east of the Capital between Kampng Chnang and Kampong Speu Province.

Currency & Tipping
Currency:
Cambodia official currency is Riel (US$ 1 = 4,000 Riels). However the US dollar is widely accepted. If you are traveling to the outskirts, it is advisable to use US dollars (get small note) although the Riel is accepted.
 
 
ATM:
ATMs are now available in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, and dispense US dollars.
 
Credit Card:
Major credit cards are accepted at large or high-end hotels, restaurants and shops in the major cities. However, they may not be accepted at smaller establishments or in smaller towns. It is always advisable to carry enough cash to cover daily purchases.
Travelers Cheques: In Phnom Penh, travelers cheques can be changed at hotels, banks and exchange places. But in Siem Reap, they can be changed at hotels and banks only. NOTE: Travelers cheques can not be used in restaurants or shopping places.

Tipping: 
Tipping is obligatory but is widely practiced with tour guide, driver also in hotels and restaurants in addition to the service charges shown on bills.
 
Cambodian Visa 
Procedures: There are three methods of applying for a visa : through a Cambodian Embassy, via internet for an e-visa and applying for visa on arrival. Most travelers find visa on arrival to be most convenient option. `

Visa Requirements on arrival ( Single Entry Visa ): 
1. Passport ( valid for at least 3 months with at least one full page available for the visa stamp.
2. Two recent passport photos
3. USD 20 for Tourist  and USD 25 for Business visa ( cash only )

Visa Validity :
30 days.
Procedures and Processing time on arrival: Submit the passport together with the photo, application and fee to the visa counter on arrival. Processing time may vary, but is approximately 15- 30 minutes. Processing time tends to be longer at overland border crossings than at the international airport.

Visa Extension:
Clients must hand their passports to Immigration Office in town, however, it can also process at our office our staff will assist to submit the application for the visa extension to the Immigration Department. Tourists can extend only 1 time for 1 month , while business visa can be visa can be extended indefinitely.

Visa extension Requirements : Passport and 1 photo.
 
Processing time : 2 working days.
 
Note: For Nationality Pakistan, Afghanistan, Algeria, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Sudan, There is no exception for these nationalities except for invitation letter or local guarantor.
